I'm finally in Kenya! The journey here took a total of three days - 18 hours in the air, 12 hour layover in London (which was fun!), and a five hour car ride on dirt and paved roads from Nairobi to our field station in Kimana. Today is day two so I've had some time to rest up from the traveling and am finally getting some time to relax and settle in. The living conditions here are much more comfortable than I expected. I share a "banda" with three other students which consists of beds and shelves, and there are six separate flushable toliets and showers which have hot water a few hours at night.
The program and staff have all been wonderful and the Kenyas are very welcoming. Today we were given a tour of the whole camp which we are staying at and a few orientation presentations. Tomorrow we will visit a Massai home which I am very excited for! I have seen a ton of animals already (including a close enconter with a baboon!) especially on the drive. I am off to practice my Kiswahili for now - I will try to post a couple times a week to keep everyone updated!
