To answer a couple of questions:
The weather here fluctuates a lot. At night it is cooler, around the 60s but during the day it usually gets pretty warm, probably around 80-90. On a warm day sitting in the shade or even when the clouds cover the sun it can be a bit chilly. At nighttime when the temperature is in the 60s the Kenyans are wearing sweaters and winter coats – sometimes I will just have a T-shirt on, no jacket, and they think I am crazy!
The research we will be doing will be to evaluate water source, sanitation, disease prevalence, agricultural practices and hand washing. We are doing a baseline study – no one has ever researched or collected data of this sort from the specific population we will be looking at and we are actually writing the questionnaire and research plan in our respective groups (my group is water source and collection). We have been working with our primary professor from Boston University School of Public Health on proper survey techniques and will be completing our questionnaires by the end of the week! Field research starts sometime the following week.
